Here are just a few ideas for celebrating CSW at your Catholic School:
Paint banners like the ones here and decorate them with helium balloons to welcome the kids as they get off of the buses and out of the cars that first day. Smiles, Smiles everyone!!
Celebrate with prayer – and lots of it – masses, rosaries, etc. Being able to pray for and with one another is one of the things that makes Catholic Schools so special!
Play a student versus faculty catechism trivia game at assembly. Use the athletic scoreboard if you have one.
Scan pictures of your faculty as grade school students themselves. See if the kids can identify their teachers.
Provide an extra treat either at recess or in the cafeteria.
Sponsor a pep rally with a grade level cheer competition. Have the grade levels choose a theme and accessorize.
Adopt another less fortunate school and conduct a fun raiser for them. Pray for them.
Have homerooms buddy up as prayer partners and pray for your buddy class for the week – or even the rest of the year.
Have teachers talk about their favorite teachers way back when – what made them so memorable.
Have a S.A.D. day (student appreciation) when there is no homework assigned.
Do an all school line dance in the yard just for fun!
Have former students come back to the school to tell what they are doing now and how their education at your school has helped them.
Have the teachers perform a Catholic School Cheer for the student body complete with pom poms! Kids enjoy it so much when we make a fool of ourselves!
Highlight a different saint of the day associated with Catholic Schools/youth like De La Salle, Bosco, Seton or Cabrini.
Have student write letters to their parent(s) thanking them for sending them to a Catholic School. Mail it for them.
Make a giant Collage in the cafeteria with the title, “Our school is a place where I can…” Have the kids write a word, sentence or draw a picture to complete the statement. Have fun viewing everyone else’s responses.
Have a door decorating contest based on the year’s theme. Award a special lunch/recognition to the winning class.
Plan a special treat for your teachers! They are the heart and soul of the school, and deserve a bit of pampering – I always thought having foot spas and hand/back massages in the lounge would be cool.
Consider Enthroning your school to the Sacred Heart of Jesus! Read the 12 promises Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary – wouldn’t those be wonderful for your school and only make it stronger!
Thank God for Catholic Schools!
