Reflection on Today’s Readings, Wednesday, June 25

Readings for June 25, 2014\

When contemplating the readings this morning, I thought of a couple of things.  First, in the Kings reading:

Standing by the column, the king made a covenant before the LORD
that they would follow him
and observe his ordinances, statutes and decrees
with their whole hearts and souls,
thus reviving the terms of the covenant
which were written in this book.
And all the people stood as participants in the covenant.

This reminded me of home Enthronement of the Sacred Heart.  This is an old Catholic tradition that is (thankfully) making a comeback.  Many graces come from this devotion.  Tomorrow, I’ll tell you more.

In the gospel, Jesus warns us to discern prophets by the fruit that they bear.  Some appear to be shiny, healthy, delicious apples on the outside, but once one takes a bite, the fruit is mealy and rotten.  Blahhhh! This also applies to technology “prophets.”  There is so much out there – spiritually speaking and otherwise.  We do not have to travel from our homes to come into contact with those who wish to deceive us or lead us from the Truth.  Through the internet, apps and television, they are already present at our fingertips – access all too easy – sometimes confusing.  We must be diligent in testing the internet prophets as well.  What is their fruit?  How can we know?

About danardoyle

I am a Catholic, working wife and mother. I have three children ages 14, 20 and 27. I am extremely busy, as you can imagine. I aim each and every day to put God first in my life, to teach my children the Faith, to be a supportive spouse, keep the house in order, and do my job outside of the home well, too. That's an impossible task - without Divine intervention! Here, I hope to share my triumphs and struggles with other working moms in the same boat. I will share the tools I have discovered to making it all work - most days!
