Reminders from a Sparrow

It’s been a very chaotic couple of weeks.  A friend of mine gave me some wonderful words of wisdom from my son’s former principal at St. Paul’s High School:  “When I feel that I need to hurry, it is precisely at that time I realize that I must slow down.” (or something very close to that!)  The way that God works is so amazing.  I heard this, of course, just when I needed it most.

Soooo, I left my lengthy “to do” list and headed off to morning mass.   One of my favorite passages in the bible was read today.  Again – not a coincidence, I’m sure!

“There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.  Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more… Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God.  Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.  Do not be afraid.  You are worth more than many sparrows.”  (from Luke 12)

One of my favorite pastimes is sitting in my husband’s big fluffy chair watching the sparrows eat seed from the bird feeder just outside the window.  Each time I watch them in awe, I think of Our Father’s incredible love for us, and how He cares so tenderly for those who love Him.

I found myself in a discussion later in the afternoon about lack of money and faith.  When something is God’s Will, He provides, just like He provides for the humble, little sparrows.  He makes a way when there is no way.  I’m living proof of that!  We must pray for discernment, then make that leap of faith.  Life is all about taking those leaps of faith – but not to fear – we’re jumping right into the arms of the Father.

One of my favorite Christian music artists is Audrey Assad.  She has a kind of raw passion about her that I seem to appreciate.  She has a great song entitled, “Sparrow.”  This You Tube video is not the best quality.  Still, I hope you enjoy the timeless message!

About danardoyle

I am a Catholic, working wife and mother. I have three children ages 10, 16 and 23. I am extremely busy, as you can imagine. I aim each and every day to put God first in my life, to teach my children the Faith, to be a supportive spouse, keep the house in order, and do my job outside of the home well, too. That's an impossible task - without Divine intervention! Here, I hope to share my triumphs and struggles with other working moms in the same boat. I will share the tools I have discovered to making it all work - most days!
